DRAX

Drax Power Station is the largest, cleanest and most efficient coal fired power plant in the UK, currently meeting 7% of the UKs energy needs.

We got a call, asking if Id be willing to shoot at Drax, highlighting their use of petcoke (fuel stuff) for a forthcoming exhibition.  It would involve climbing to heights, and shooting underground in very dusty conditions they said.  How much fun did that sound - so off we go to Selby, N.Yorks to see an ENORMOUS power plant and get into many of the places the public never see.  What I was very happy to see was that all the employees I met loved working there, and the whole plant had an atmosphere of extremely high health and safety standards.  This did of course mean that I had to wear THE MOST UNFASHIONABLE workwear imaginable.  I asked for a black boilersuit and hat but was told that as the place was powered by coal this would be a very silly idea indeed. Fairynuff.  Couple of pics here, one with myself (on left) and Andy Westley ,Field Performance Officer, a very nice man indeed who showed us around and made sure we didnt get run over by trains or fall off roofs etc.  We loved this job and will be back, fingers crossed, to shoot some personal work from what must be one of the most imposing industrial locations in the UK.
