Long shifts and decaf bloody tea

Evenin.

This week we are mostly sat at our Macs editing and doing final touch kinda stuff on the last two weeks work. We were awarded the contract to shoot VENTUREFEST this year at York Racecourse, a knowledge, technology and innovation event bristling with inventors, investors and loads of school kids with excellent wee businesses ( I personally came away with a very nice badge, a smoothie and a cd of quite innovative music!) Anyway, 6.30 start, 2 deadlines to hit with a completed shoot list, one for the designers of a newletter about the event being written and edited throughout the day, given pictures from ourselves and then professionally printed and delivered back for the evening meal -well done to STONE-SOUP for pulling that off. Our second deadline was to produce a slideshow of pics in a video format we could deliver to the A.V. guy in time for the pre meal drinks.

The only way we could get those shots turned round so quick was to set the cameras to shoot our lovely rich hi-def RAW fies as well as smaller jpegs at the same time. This ate our memory cards like buggery but we (Katie and I), took turns shooting, downloading, editing the jpegs and adding to the slideshow footage as we went. 10.45pm took our last shot of the events Innovation Showcase competition winners RED EMBEDDED , packed the cars and went home. There will be some samples fom the event in the commercial / new work section as soon as I have time to update it.

Two days later I'm shooting a lovely wedding full of much fun people at the Registers Office ( pics online in wedding section as soon as the happy couple are back from honeymoon), before driving up north to do a camera club talk. (1.5hours of me showing off and being smug and swearing a bit whilst getting tea and biscuits thank you very much).

A few days later and were in Selby shooting some brilliant music sessions across all youth age groups and abilities. Kirsty Halliday, Tune-In Regional Co-ordinator did an ace job and the young people had a great time. Kirsty also runs Red Sand Arts Management If you need your arts managed, call Kirsty - very professional and very good fun.

ANNNYWAY back to how busy we were, we had a day in the studio shooting a very nice family from Bishopthorpe who Im sure gave their children some kinda crazy juice just before they came in to see me.(Hi Nick & Sian) then next day we start two days of shooting the rehearsals for a Huge dance event in Wakefield Cathedral. The project INNER SPACES by the Ascendance Rep filled Wakefield Cathedral with contemporary dancers from all over Yorkshire, and as if that wasnt fun enough, I then had an hour with renowned choreographer Jacky Lansley and two dancers to get images for the next project "The Cathedrals Tour", which sounds very cool indeed.

On a much more relaxed note, my daughter and I have recently been making our STROBIST snoots and gridspots for our flashes as the dance event trashed most of my previous versions as we were going location lighting crazy in a beautiful but v dark cathedral. If you want to see someone really have fun, give a 3yr old a role of gaffer tape.

Oh and the decaf tea - a recent (and first) migraine has forced me to cut my trips to Pretamanger to once a day. bugger.

Pics below will be added to as soon as I get a chance: Speaker at Venturefest, ambient light. Young Dj lit by 3 strobes on stands, one white for main light, one subject rear gelled purple and one subject right 2 stops down gelled green for a more DJ light look than the class room otherwise offered. Pic three is from Inner Spaces in Wakefield, dancer lit by strobe camera right, ambient fill from left.
